Popotla means “among hollow reeds” in Nahuatl, a remnant of a lake geography that no longer exists. At its center still stands the trunk of the ahuehuete that history called the Tree of the Sad Night and that residents renamed the Tree of the Victorious Night: the same defeat told from the other side.
The frame holds that change of perspective without changing structure: a square shape in thick acetate, with parallelogram rivets and double-barrel hinges. Firm construction, different reading.
Designed in Mexico and handmade in Japan by artisans devoted to making frames of excellent quality. Also available as sunglasses.
