Chimalli means shield in Nahuatl. In Mexica military dress it was not only defense: its design and materials signaled the rank of whoever carried it. Today a sixty-meter, six-hundred-ton chimalli warrior by the sculptor Sebastián greets anyone entering Chimalhuacán.
The frame picks up that idea of protection that also identifies: a rectangular shape with rounded edges in light, highly durable acetate. Shield before ornament.
